Kerstin Karlhuber is an award-winning filmmaker known for emotionally resonant, character-driven stories with commercial appeal. Her films have earned critical acclaim and secured top-tier worldwide distribution both theatrically and on premium streaming sites.
Kerstin's second feature film, After All, starring Erika Christensen and Penelope Ann Miller, was released theatrically on 40+ screens across the US in October 2025. ABC7- TV Los Angeles called it “A gut-wrenching story told through incredible photography and direction…. there wasn’t a trivial moment.” KTLA- TV Los Angeles wrote, “A throwback to when movies made you feel something…Christensen gives a performance so real, so raw, you'll want to reach up and give her a hug after you wipe away your tears." Kerstin was awarded the NYWIFT (New York Women in Film & Television) Award for Excellence in Narrative Directing for the film.
Her first feature film, Fair Haven, has been called, "deftly and meticulously directed...A Don't-Miss Indie" -Film Independent, and “A stirring, well-acted, tenderly wrought story" - Los Angeles Times. The film was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be featured in the permanent Core Collection at the Academy Film Archive and Library. The film has an extensive, worldwide fan base, became a #1 bestselling title on Amazon Prime Video in multiple territories, and was acquired by Showtime.
Kerstin’s third feature, Mrs. Strissel and the Dogs, will shoot this year. She has optioned the popular sci-fi/adventure book series, The Collectors’ Society, for television adaptation. Her work also includes short films, television, and commercial campaigns for a range of clients. She holds an MFA in film production from Boston University, along with undergraduate degrees in musical theater. Kerstin is active in animal rescue. She and her husband, along with their two rescue dogs, are based in Los Angeles and also spend time in Vermont, where they’re restoring an 1800s farmhouse.
